We will start your safari early in Arusha, where your designated driver will pick you up from your hotel, residence, or the airport. Take a moment to acquaint yourself with your driver and have a conversation about your safari goals and the type of experience you’re seeking. Once the introductions are complete, we will journey westward into the beautiful Tanzanian countryside, heading in the direction of Lake Manyara.

Lake Manyara National Park, which at 330-sq-km is one of Tanzania’s smallest parks and about 200-sq-km is covered by its Rift Valley soda lake. The dense woodlands and steep mountainsides make it very scenic, especially from the viewpoints on top of the escarpment looking down on the lake. Manyara is a paradise for large herds of elephant and buffalo, giraffe and impala roam the lakeshores that also attract more than 400 species of birds, troops of olive baboon and Sykes monkey frolic in the forests, and you might be lucky and spot the famous tree-climbing lions that the park is famous for.
After a day of bird-watching and encountering other fascinating animals in the region, you’ll return to your chosen accommodation for a satisfying dinner and a well-deserved rest. This thrilling first day of your Tanzanian safari includes:

After breakfast, we head across the hilly plateaus of the Tanzania upcountry, where the red-robed Maasai live in traditional villages of thatched huts and their cattle graze amongst the savannah game like zebra, wildebeest and gazelle. Along the way, there is time to enjoy a packed lunch, and the route heads northwest via the Naabi Hill Gate and into the Serengeti National Park. Meaning ‘endless plains’ in the Maasai language, the Serengeti is one of Africa’s largest and most celebrated wilderness areas and home to all the animals people expect to see on safari.
You will spend the next two nights at a comfortable safari lodge or tented camp, which is located in the south-central region of the park known as the Seronera Valley. It’s a very scenic area with acacia-studded open plains lined with low hills and abundant wildlife including large numbers of big cats.

Enjoy your breakfast then we will go ahead with both morning and afternoon game drives in Serengeti National Park. Remember this is the migration safari, so as Serengeti is very large as your game drives will depend on the move of the migrants, your guide knows very well how to locate the herds. The Serengeti National Park is famous for the ‘Great Migration’, over one million wildebeest and two hundred thousand plus zebras each year follow the rains. In October and November, they travel from the mountains of the north, southwards to the plains seeking lush pastures. After the great rainy season in April, May, and June the herds then make their return ward journey. Even without this mass migration, the Serengeti is still an exciting and spectacular place that still cannot fail to enthrall.

This morning we wake up very early at 6am for another Serengeti game drive and perhaps see the small predators like jackal, hyena and bat-eared fox out and about as dawn breaks. At around 9am we return to your camp/lodge for breakfast and then drive out of the Serengeti and back into the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

This highland region of plains, woodlands and forests protects the Ngorongoro Crater, the world’s largest caldera and a designated UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is 19.2-km in diameter, 610-metres deep and covers an area of 304-sq-km and was formed when a volcano erupted and collapsed on itself approximately two and a half million years ago. The well-fertilised volcanic soils create rich grazing for the animals and it is often referred to as ‘the Garden of Eden’. On the way, and for an extra fee, you can stop at the museum at Olduvai Gorge to learn about the archaeological excavations that escalated the studies of early man.

From the crater rim, you may catch a glimpse of a magnificent sunset before heading to our camp/lodge.

After an early morning meal, we will complete our check-out procedures and begin our journey to the tribesmen of Lake Eyasi. The drive takes us to the small town of Karatu, which lies on the outer edge of the Ngorongoro Crater and then to Lake Eyasi on a very rough trail for 2 hours. The road circumnavigates the Ngorongoro crater and heads southwest to Mongola Village

Here you will have contact with local tribesmen and impression of Barabaig, Hadza and San tribes. The Hadza number just under 1000. Some 300 to 400 Hadza live as hunter-gatherers, much as their ancestors have for thousands or even tens of thousands of years; they are the last functioning hunter-gatherers in Africa

Once we are done exploring the beautiful culture of these tribes, you will then be taken at your chosen accommodation near the shores of Lake Eyasi. Included on this day of your safari:

The day begins with your breakfast followed by a short drive to the scenic Tarangire National Park. Covering approximately 2600-sq-km, it is especially spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife herds of wildebeest, zebra, eland and impala gather at the permanent waters of the Tarangire River—‘river of warthogs’. It is the one place in Tanzania where dry-country antelope such as the stately fringe-eared oryx and peculiar long-necked gerenuk are regularly observed, and the park is well-known for its huge herds of elephant. Predators in Tarangire include lion, leopard, cheetah, caracal and honey badger, and it also boasts an impressive bird count of around 500 species including eagles, falcons and owls. The park’s lovely landscape features granite ridges, extensive green marshlands, and Tarangire’s famous giant baobab trees.

Your final day on safari in Tanzania begins with breakfast. From there, your driver will take you on the journey through the countryside of north west Tanzania.
As you head to Arusha, take in the life of the ordinary people of this fascinating country. You’ll pass through towns and villages of people going about their day, offering you a glimpse into their lives that aren’t so far from your own.
Upon arrival in Arusha, you will be taken for a goodbye lunch by your driver before they drop you off at your hotel, residence, or even the local airport, depending on your travel plans.
